The history of WTV &
R&M Films
WTV or the women's Channel started out
as a basic cable program out of Ladiston, which catered to woman's
interest. It initially featured cooking, shopping, soap operas, and
local talk shows.
During one of the talk show episodes
they were dealing with male exotic dancers when one of the performers
got too close to the live studio audience and one of the women there
grabbed his g-string and pulled it, flashing a little more skin than
was intended. Immediately the camera feed was cut, but a second
camera they switched to had just panned over in time to catch the
dancers bare butt as he struggled to maintain his g-string and his
dignity.
A commercial break was inserted and
order was restored on the show. While the producers of the show and
the women in charge of WTV began preparing an apology to issue for
the incident, call started coming into the network, as well as
e-mails and texts. This was the most response they had ever received
and it became the popular episode ever. Calls and letters came in
for repeat showings this sparked an interest which caused the WTV
channel to rethink change their demographic and programming. They
soon developed a premium channel which dealt with women's more
prurient related in seeing more male nudity.
The change was gradual, and most of
the programs on the basic WTV channel remained very tame compared to
their premium package, but it became fairly common to see movies with
male nude scenes at night, and mildly suggestive programming during
the day.
Now the premium WTV Channel needed
content, and one of the staffers recommended Rebecca and Melissa's
production company, R&M Films. R&M had been just barely
getting by doing local commercials, and a few somewhat racy national
ads. When they were contacted about this opportunity they jumped at
the chance.
When Melissa and Rebecca became
involved their programming service became exclusively aimed towards
showing the male form. The content at first ranged from six hours a
day until eventually around the clock.
Programs ranged from, game shows,
miniseries, special events, pseudo documentaries about male nude
modeling, made for WTV movies and weekly series. Some of the early
programs were direct rip offs of popular TV shows in the past, there
is a take-off of 'I Dream of Jeannie' which was simply called
'Jeannie's dreams' where the genie, after being locked in the bottle
for hundreds of years, was so controlled by her sexual desires she
often would strip her master just to get a look at him. 'Witching
hour' was a takeoff on 'Bewitched' where the heroine would often
embarrass her husband by having him suddenly naked in embarrassing
situations to show him who was boss, or to get even after an
argument.
Eventually the programming improved
with more original ideas, but the main draw of WTV was and still is
male nudity in almost all of its shows.
One of the documentaries R&M
produced was about a makeup artist preparing male models for their
shoots. These were often more revealing than the shoot themselves as
they showed mainly to tame mainstream images that advertisers used
but the backstage prep was very revealing. another one of their
programs was a weekly show that was a take off on 'Candid Camera'
which of course always managed to have male nudity involved during
the show.
